I've been one of those so called "bloggers" for about a year and a half now. When I first began my personal blog, it was a way I could journal my feelings and my life as I struggled through the loss of my husband. There are places online that can take your blogs and turn them into actual books, sort of like an online journal/scrapbook. As I've progressed as a blogger, my blog has changed here and there. It's also been a place for me to write funny things that happen in my life or even things that made me angry, frustrated, embarrassed, or sad. My own children LOVE when I post something about them. I've also come across others' blogs that I love to read and make comments on. Year before last I even entered a blog contest for Mother's day and I won a custom made purses for my mom and me! I have blogs I read to learn new ways to fix my daughters' hair, read up on events happening with friends and family, and where I find new recipes.
Once finished with this course, I most definitely will be creating a blog for my classroom. I feel this can be a way for parents to be more connected to their child's daily activities. Pictures and even video clips can be added. Students would also enjoy reading the blog and possibly even making comments about their reflections on activities going on in the classroom. I teach writing, so I could have a guest writer each week (students of course) and he or she could write and post "news" that is important to him or her.
This week we were also assigned to creating a voki. I did create mine and added it to my blog. I didn't like the advertisements that were along the bottom of it, so I decided to create an avitar using yahoo. Both of these programs were easy and fun to use.
As the video was explaining exactly how blogs work, it also mentioned that it's really not all that important how they work. What's important then? The importance lies in what people do with their blogs. What can YOU do with a blog?
